Modernizing a data platform built on a decade of ad hoc scripts
An illustrative example of migrating a company's reporting and analytics off a brittle collection of scheduled scripts and onto a managed cloud data platform.
This is a conceptual project illustrating our approach, not a completed client engagement — no outcomes below are presented as real client results.
- Legacy pipeline migration
- Infrastructure as code
- Documentation & testability
The problem
A decade of ad hoc scripts, each written by a different now-departed contractor, quietly powered a company's core reporting — with no documentation and no one confident enough to change them.
Our approach
Inventory every script and its downstream dependents, rebuild the pipeline on a managed, version-controlled data platform with tests and documentation, and cut over one reporting pipeline at a time so nothing breaks mid-migration.
What this approach delivers
A documented, testable data platform the team can safely modify — replacing tribal knowledge with a system anyone on the team can maintain.
